Meet Jolene Perkins O’Leary one of our Charity Athletes for Run3rd Alliance!
What events have you done (or do you plan on doing) with R3A?
I completed Ironman Hawaii 70.3 in 2022, and plan to race again in 2023. I also just raced in the Mesa Sprint Tri this past weekend, and plan on racing in USA Woman’s Half and the Mesa Half Marathon in 2023!
Why did you want to become a charity athlete with RUN3rd Alliance?
- Purposeful running, for those that can’t!
- Love of giving back, and helping those in need
- I thought “why not?”
- I love the people and the uniform
- the cause is close to my heart (for the youth)
What was your motivation to run? How or why did you start running?
I’ve always been a runner, I was a charity runner before and loved having a purpose to run, I love the motivation! I met the director of run3rd and always said I wanted to help, so I got in when the opportunity came up!
How do you “make time” for running and fitness in your daily life?
I make it a priority and it’s a privilege so I try to do a workout- run, bike or swim 6 days a week!
What lessons have you learned in your running or fitness journey?
Consistency is key– friends, family and community are extremely important in our lives!
Greatest challenge in your running and fitness journey so far?
Overcoming the fear of not finishing my first triathlon (half ironman) and wanting to challenge myself to push and do 26 miles in the Boston Marathon one day!
Favorite R3A event you’ve participated in?
Definitely Hawaii 70.3 (Half Ironman)
